Proof that I can at least outdo the BAFTAs.
For the past couple of years, inspired by Kyle Turner doing so back in 2016, every late February I have been putting together fun little thought exercises about how I would have done Awards Season, were I given either control of the whole thing or the ability to contribute to everybody else’s ballots. And with the Oscars coming next Sunday so we can finally put this whole thing to bed for another (*checks notes*) eight months – Christ, I can remember when Variety were calling this “the most exciting Awards Season in years” before everybody released their nominees list and it turned out they were largely going to fall into drearily predictable lockstep with each other – it’s time once again for me to push out this prime slice of filler! As usual, this is just how I would do the nominee lists rather than picking any winners, and reasons can be found either in my massive Year in Review from December (a hub filled with links being here) or my BAFTA nomination rundown for this year (and which I scored a clean sweep in predictions on so I am currently hung up about not having bet money on them).
If you’re wondering why it’s so late, blame Universal UK for bodging the release of Lady Bird so hard that it was available to buy on home media in America before it got a cinema release here, the bastards.
